About the Project

The City's first comprehensive land use plan (CLUP) was adopted in 2007 and is the official long range guide for making decisions about growth and development.  The plan is a summary of the goals, objectives, strategies, policies, and projects that will enable the community to achieve its vision for the future.

The intent of the City's CLUP update is to identify current and future trends and how they may impact the City in important areas such as housing, environment, business, transportation, historic preservation, city services, and overall quality of life.

Due to the diverse nature of our community,  "
collaboration" is very important in the development of the land use plan. This collaboration process starts with input from a vast range of specialty stakeholder groups such as economic development specialist, higher education community, neighboring jurisdictions and agencies such as NCDOT, and you!

Belmont's heart and soul reflects well in the strength of our community. It is our belief, that the strength of our community lies in the hands of its residents, business and land owners, and supporting organizations.  Please be part of setting the vision for Belmont's future by staying involved.  Visit our "get involved" page for more information.
