Purpose and Duties

The Belmont Board of Adjustment is an decision-making body made up of five (5) members appointed by the Belmont City Council. Four of the five members reside in the city, and one member represents the Extra-Territorial jurisdiction (ETJ).  The Board hears and decides:

  • Appeals of decisions of administrative officials charged with enforcement of the ordinance
  • Petitions for variances from Belmont's Land Development Code


The Board meets at least once a month on an “as needed basis” with regularly scheduled meetings (PDF) on the 2nd Thursday of each month. All meetings are open to the public and will be advertised in advanced.  Agendas and minutes can be found on iCompass.

The April 11th meeting has been canceled due to a lack of agenda items.

Accepting Applications:

The city is now accepting applications for Board of Adjustment members. There are two full term (3 years) positions opening. Applications must be submitted prior by May 3rd,and interviews will be scheduled in May.

Before applying for a variance or an appeal (PDF), please consult with the Planning and Zoning Department staff. Legal representation is not required when appearing before the Board, but it is recommended.
