Water Restriction News Release - April 21st, 2008

 NEWS RELEASE

BELMONT OK's ADDITIONAL CHANGES TO

WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES

As a result of information provided by Duke Energy to the Drought Management Advisory Group pertaining to improved lake levels along the Catawba River and the overall impact of certain water uses, the Belmont City Council has approved additional changes to the current Stage 3 water restrictions regarding outdoor water usage.  Effective immediately, any outdoor use of water, including residential vehicle washing, the filling or refilling of swimming pools, and pressure washing, is now allowed on Saturdays.  All outdoor water use may occur at any time on Saturdays but must end at midnight.

This change comes in follow-up to actions taken earlier in April to allow lawn watering one day per week and in March to allow the hand watering and drip irrigation of trees, shrubs, plants, and personal food gardens three days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays).

Even with improved conditions, our area remains in an extreme drought condition, and all efforts to conserve water should continue to be taken.  Should we see a return to drier weather patterns, it may become necessary to again tighten the water use restrictions.

We again thank everyone for their cooperation to date with the restrictions that have already been implemented and urge your continued cooperation.

Should anyone desire additional details concerning the City's water use requirements, please contact the Belmont City Hall at 704-825-5586.
