The Parks and Recreation Citizen Advisory Board recommended to the Belmont City Council at the April 7, 2008, Council meeting and the Council approved the following concerning the Park Bonds:

The Board supports the priorities originally planned for the Bonds as listed in the fall of 2007. These being following:

A- The City will need to acquire land for and develop one community park (20-30 acres), develop one neighborhood park (10-15 acres), and develop five mini parks (1-2 acres) to accommodate both existing and anticipated needs by the year 2013.

B- The community park should be intensely developed to provide multiple fields such as youth baseball, adult softball, football, and soccer. The park should be a high priority.

C- The neighborhood park should be developed on City-owned land with passive recreational amenities such as trails, picnic areas, and shelters.

D- A mini park should be developed on City-owned riverfront land as a passive use facility.

E- Park sites should be acquired in the northern, eastern, and southern parts of the City to provide facilities for underserved areas.

F-General obligation bonds should be used as the major funding source for the proposed park acquisition and development activities.

The Citizen Advisory board also requested that the City Council move forward with allocating funds for the River Park design and development, the Skate Park design and development, and the north Belmont neighborhood park design and development. This was approved at the April 7, 2008 City Council meeing.
