Stormwater Development Rules

Minimize

The City of Belmont is under two separate sets of development rules for stormwater runoff. The eastern portion of the city is located in the WS-IV Water Supply Watershed, and everything else is subject to NPDES Phase 2 Stormwater rules. Both rules require high-density development to contain the stormwater runoff in water quality ponds, such as the one on the left, but the Watershed rules are designed to protect our drinking water intake on the Catawba River.

The City of Belmont administers the WS-IV Water Supply Watershed program and Gaston County Natural Resourcesadministers the Phase 2 Stormwater program.

Stormwater ponds collect runoff and slow it down and filter our pollutants before the stormwater enters streams, creeks, and the Catawba River.
