Opening a Business
When you decide to open a business in Belmont, please begin by contacting the Planning and Zoning Department to be sure that what you want to do is allowed in the zoning district in which you want to operate. You will need to obtain a zoning permit (PDF) for the business. For the process of obtaining a zoning permit, visit our Development Plan Review Process page. Once you have the Belmont zoning permit, you may need a Gaston County building permit if you are doing new construction or renovations to an existing building.
