Police Officer Hiring Process

Thank you for your interest in the Belmont Police Department. The Belmont Police Department is always looking for qualified applicants.

Application Pool
The department accepts applications year round whether a position is available or not. Should a position become available, the department will screen the existing applicant pool and call the most qualified applicants in for further evaluation.

Applicants must have completed a North Carolina approved Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program.

Application Process
The application process includes the following steps:
  1. Interview Board
  2. Police Officer Physical Ability Test (POPAT) (PDF)
  3. Background Investigation
  4. Medical Physical
  5. Psychological Testing
  6. Firearms Qualification
  7. Captain of Police Interview
  8. Chief of Police Application Review
  9. Human Resources Application Review

Once all forms and information has been gathered for the application, please put the information in a sealed envelope and either drop it off in person to the front desk or mail it to the department. The application must be marked as follows:
